About Tony
A fourth-generation Iron Ranger, Tony Sertich has represented the people of Northern Minnesota for the past eight years in the House of Representatives. Tony serves the residents of Northeastern Minnesota’s District 5B, including Hibbing, Chisholm, Meadowlands, Floodwood, Cotton, Grand Lake, Solway and other important communities and townships in Northern St. Louis County.
In November of 2006 the citizens of District 5B reelected Tony for a fourth term. Shortly thereafter he was elected by his peers to serve as the Minnesota House Majority Leader—the youngest Majority Leader in Minnesota history.
As Majority Leader, whether he is visiting with constituents in District 5B, working on the House floor during debate that impacts policy statewide or local local or statewide policy, or whether he is chairing a committee, Sertich works to deliver on issues that are vital to all Minnesotans: education, health care, good jobs, transportation, and property tax fairness.
Along with the honor of being the House Majority Leader, Sertich has the responsibility of serving as the lead DFL member during House floor debates; of serving as chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Legislative Administration; is a member of the House Committee on Ways & Means; and is a member of the House Finance Committee.
Outside of the Legislature, Sertich considers his others important public service commitments to include serving as a member of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB)—a unique state agency designed to help strengthen and diversify the economy of northeastern Minnesota. And, finally, as a board member of Ironworld Development Corp—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that operates the Ironworld Museum and History Center.
Tony Sertich grew up on the Iron Range, surrounded by immediate and extended family, graduated from Chisholm High School, and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree as a double major at Hamline University.
Tony and his wife, Tallie, were recently married and own a home together in Chisholm. Tallie works for Hibbing Community College as Director of Upward Bound. In the private sector, Tony is the business manager of a small business—Longyear Incorporated. In his personal time, he really enjoys hunting, fishing, reading, films, and spending time with his family.
